In Knights in the Nightmare, Activation involves ordering a knight to attack by hovering the wisp over them or dragging an item to them. During Activation, attacks and skills can be charged for range and power until full, or as long as desired. Activated knights can have their skill attacks postponed by pressing the R button, which will put them in Ready State; a knight in Ready State can initiate their skill with another touch from the wisp.
